How to Make an Emergency Preparedness Plan

Every family should be prepared for every emergency that could happen at home or in their community. Lack of food, water and other basic provisions could happen if a family does not make any plans to deal with something unexpected. This is especially devastating to children as they are more susceptible to emergencies.
Preparing for emergency requires two types of plan: physical and mental. The physical side is your basic provisions: first aid kits, canned goods, bottled waters, battery powered radio, flashlights and other things that are light but highly useful during emergencies. Although government help will eventually arrive, it is better to have survival kits so that everyone will have what they need even if the resources are cut off or temporarily unavailable.

The mental part of the plan is about preparation. Everyone should know what they should do when a particular event would happen. For example, kids should find the exits in their home in case of a fire while parents call the proper authorities for assistance. Fire drills are highly recommended so that everyone will know what they will do. This will prevent panic and increases efficiency in saving items from fire.

While creating plans and preparing the survival kit, it’s also a must to keep contact information of authorities as well as families and friends. The contact information is vital for survival as they can provide some type of assistance. List the contact information on a notebook or a card and add it in the survival kit. Knowing who to call is also a part of an efficient survival plan.
